6am Update

Phil rested well last night.

His vitals continue to hold strong, so they are going to start weaning him off the breathing machine. The first step will be to reduce the frequency of the forced breathing which allows his natural reaction to take over. The head bandage is off. It was either that or Rhonda was going to draw a Harley-Davidson logo on the front of it. The laceration on the back of his head seems to be healing well, so I think the Dr. made the right choice.

They are keeping him sedated to help maintain the lower heart rate and blood pressure, giving the heart time to rest. One of Phil's favorite slogans is, "Better living through chemistry" and he is definately in his happy place. He is conscious enough to perform stupid human tricks like wiggling his fingers and toes on command....and provide sarcastic commentary. Yesterday, Rhonda was singing him a song and (bless her heart) couldn't quite hit the high note. Phil opened his eyes and raised his eyebrows as if to say, "Really?"

  1. Thanks so much for the updates. Alot of Rhonda's friends at Coppell Middle School West are following Phil's progress through the blog. We are all keeping them in our thoughts and prayers. I know Phil is a strong and determined guy and he would do anything for Rhonda, including a full recovery! Prayers for Phil, Rhonda, Sean and Ashley.

Thanks very much for this venue to communicate through. Please pass along to Phil and Rhonda and Sean and Ashley how pleased we are to hear of Phil's good progress. We know it will be a long road back, but the Headrick clan are collectively praying for a speady and complete recovery and are trusting in the Lord for nothing less. Jana and I will be down soon and look forward to all working.together. Keep up the good fight. Our love to all.

Tim, I especially appreciated your "story" of your recollections of the accident. Yes, accidents do happen. Bad thngs happen to good people all the time. It's how we deal with those times that define our character. We are all concerned about Phil and Rhonda and the kids, of course, but how are YOU? And Liz? Please let us know if we can do anything for you, as well. And we are praying for you, too. I am so glad you are there for them. Thanks for your friendship. See you all soon
    Your friend,

  5. Carey,

Thanks for the post and kind words.

Liz and I are where God needs us to be and couldn't be more honored to be of help. We rotate the responsibility of being the "rock" between all of us in this community and that seems to be working well.

We look forward to you an Jana joining us here in East Texas and having you join along on the rides. But for the record, we're not going to let Phil lead a ride. Hell, if he can't follow at 150 feet behind, no telling what he'd get us into!
